What are the coolest-sleeping firmness options for stomach sleepers?
For a stomach sleeper who runs warm, firmness and cooling are two separate choices. Make them in that order, because a cooling upgrade can change how firm the bed feels.
Research guide by Senso Research · Sources checked September 25, 2026
The quick answer: Our pick is the Helix Dawn, Helix's firm model for back and stomach sleepers, in the Luxe version with the GlacioTex Cooling Cover and CoolForce layer. That option adds Helix's heat-conductive cover and heat-transfer layer over a wrapped-coil core without swapping the firm model for a softer one. Choose the Helix Dusk if you prefer a medium feel. Consider the Saatva Classic in Firm for a traditional innerspring, or Purple's Restore Hybrid if you want its grid surface at a medium feel.
Decide the feel first, then the cooling
- Firmness decides how you lie on the bed. Brands aim their firm models at stomach sleepers. Helix describes Dawn as a firm bed for people who want to lie on top without sinking in; Saatva rates its Classic Firm 8 out of 10 and calls it best suited to stomach sleepers. Helix also sells Dusk, a medium model for the same sleepers, so feel remains a preference.
- Cooling comes from the build. Look at three parts: the coil core, which leaves room for air; the cover, from breathable knit to heat-conductive fabric; and any layer designed to move heat away from the surface.
- Check whether an upgrade changes the feel. Helix's cooling upgrade for its Core models is a plush pillow top, which adds cushioning to a firm bed. The Luxe and Elite upgrades change the cover and a layer instead.
- Treat cooling claims as brand-defined. Companies describe cooling with their own terms and tests, so compare named features rather than headline promises.

Where Helix fits — and where it doesn't
Choose Helix when you want firmness and cooling as separate, priced choices. The Dawn Luxe page lists the standard TENCEL cover, a GlacioTex cover upgrade and a GlacioTex-plus-CoolForce upgrade, each with its own price. The Dawn Elite includes a GlacioTex Elite cover and CoolForce as standard, over an 8-inch unit of extra-firm wrapped coils.
Choose Helix Dusk when medium suits you better. The Dusk is positioned for back and stomach sleepers and, in the Core line, lists the same cover and pillow-top options at the same queen prices as Dawn.
Consider Saatva instead when you want a dual-coil innerspring. The Saatva Classic Firm pairs a floating-on-top feel with a 365-night trial, about three times Helix's, and in-room delivery.
Consider Purple instead when you like a grid surface and a medium feel. The Restore Hybrid, $2,699 in queen, is listed for stomach sleepers, though it is medium rather than firm, and its trial and warranty are shorter than Helix's.
A worked example: three ways to buy a cooler Dawn
Illustrative arithmetic using queen regular prices shown on September 25, 2026 (Helix was also displaying lower promotional prices):
- Core Dawn + GlacioTex Cooling Pillow Top: $1,478.66 + $373.34 = $1,852.00. It adds Helix's cool-to-the-touch fabric, but as a plush layer on top of a firm bed.
- Dawn Luxe + GlacioTex Cooling Cover + CoolForce: $2,498.66 + $498.67 = $2,997.33. That is $1,145.33 more than the Core option, and the cooling comes from the cover and a layer, not a pillow top.
- Dawn Elite, CoolForce included: $4,370.66, or $1,373.33 more than the Luxe configuration, for the Elite cover, microcoils and a 15-inch build.
If firm feel is your priority, the middle option is the lowest-cost way to get Helix's cover-and-layer pairing without a pillow top.
Checklist before you decide
- Choose the feel from the brand's own description. Firm if you want to lie on top of the bed; medium if you want a little more give.
- Check what the cooling upgrade adds. A pillow top adds a plush surface; a cover or internal-layer upgrade keeps the same model and firmness label.
- Separate cover from layer. The cover is what feels cool to the touch; CoolForce is a layer beneath it that Helix describes as moving heat away.
- Match the height to your frame. Dawn runs from 11.5 inches (Core) to 15 inches (Elite).
- Compare regular prices. Promotions change often; line up the same size and configuration.
- Plan the trial. Helix asks for 30 nights before an exchange or return; Saatva allows 365 nights; Purple 100.
Common questions
Is a firmer mattress automatically cooler?
No. Firmness describes feel; cooling comes from covers, layers and the coil core. At Helix, the Core Dawn and Dusk carry the same cooling options, so you can choose each separately.
Is the Elite cooler than a Luxe with CoolForce?
Both pair a GlacioTex cover with the CoolForce layer. The Elite uses an Elite version of the cover and adds microcoils and height. In the pages we reviewed, Helix does not compare the two configurations directly, so decide on feel, height and price.
What if Dawn feels too firm at first?
Helix asks you to keep a new mattress for 30 days, then can arrange an exchange of equal or greater value within 120 nights, for example to Dusk. Saatva also allows exchanges during its trial, for a $99 processing fee.
Take this with you: Pick the feel first, then buy cooling as a named, priced option that does not quietly soften a firm bed.
Next step: Open the Helix Dawn Luxe page, compare the TENCEL, GlacioTex and CoolForce options at your size, and note the 30-night minimum before ordering.
